Bird Rehabilitation & Re-homing Centre

A bird rehabilitation and rehoming center based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Meika’s Safehouse provides a safe and loving environment for birds in need. We work primarily with parrots, but all species of companion or pet birds are welcomed

When birds are surrendered into our care, we fully assess the their overall health and start some training as appropriate. Most of the birds have not been abused, but because of the level of intelligence they possess, they are often under significant emotional stress when they are relinquished. Birds that have been mistreated emotionally or physically require more rehabilitation and may never be suitable for rehoming.

* During the Month of December all Adoptions are put on hold *

When we determine a bird is ready to be rehomed, much care and consideration is put into selecting an appropriate family. When we are able to match a bird with a new family, in most cases, he or she will be adopted out with a cage suitable, as well as the toys and favorite items the bird has grown accustomed to. We also provide a current health certificate and microchip most birds before they leave our care.

Our desire is to see the birds that leave our care to succeed in their new home, and we are always here to provide advice and assistance.

To see the birds we currently have available for adoption, please see below.

If you would like to meet one of the parrots please call and we will make arrangements.

Very talkative, steps up on her own terms, stays put on a stand.  Not suitable for a home with children. If she has his mindset that she doesn't like you, she will fly to attack. This bird will have to choose you to be a good match.

There was very little information about her when we went to pick her up. We are unsure of her age, we were told her hatch-year was 2010, but cannot guarantee this, we were also told her name was Lulu, but she says "Step up Pickle, Hi Pickle" so we believe her name is Pickle.

"Up up up up up up up up, Good boy, Be a good Boy, Hi Pretty Girl, Hello" - Does swear.

VERY sweet parrot with a gentle soul.  Would do best in a single home or family setting with older children.  A loud house is not recommended for him.  Alexandrines love to chew, so plenty of wood toys available to him is a necessity to keep your furniture and other sacred items in tact.
