A Safe Haven for Birds in Need
Meika’s Safehouse is a registered charity (759729874 RR0001) dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming companion birds—especially parrots. While parrots are our primary focus, we welcome birds of all types who need a safe and loving place to land.
Compassionate Care and Rehabilitation
When a bird comes into our care, we start with a full health check and begin socialization and training when needed. Many birds are not abused but are emotionally stressed due to changes in their environment or being surrendered.
Some birds who have experienced emotional or physical trauma may need long-term rehabilitation and might not be suitable for rehoming. We take every case seriously and provide the individual attention each bird deserves.
Finding the Right Home
Once a bird is ready for adoption, we carefully match them with a new family. Our goal is to set both the bird and the family up for long-term success.
In most cases, adopted birds go to their new homes with their cage, toys, and familiar items to ease the transition. Every bird, from small to extra-large, also receives a current health certificate and is microchipped before adoption.

We want every bird that leaves our care to thrive. That’s why we’re always here to offer advice and support, even after adoption.

Meet & Greet
Spend time with the bird you’re interested in to ensure a good match.
Completed Adoption Application
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Virtual and In-Person Home Visit
Includes an interview to discuss your experience and environment.
After House Visit:
Health Certificate (within the last 6 months)

Parrot Care Course Completion
Complete Meika's Safehouse Parrot Care Course through Parrot SOS ($50+GST. This is in addition to the adoption fee)
